Documentation: Content Loader

Using the Synergy Content Loader (Outdated)

Synergy has the ability to include other Source games and mods, making it possible to play them cooperatively in Synergy.

NOTE: changing the games or mods you load in Synergy, will require you to restart the game - changes do not take effect until you restart the game.

Including additional Games And Mods

NOTE: it is best that you have great knowledge of Hammer Editor and Source in general when creating new include files for a game or mod.

The steps to include an additional game or mod in Synergy, are as follows:

  1. Create a Game Definition File in the "content" directory, using the correct format.
  2. Create the appropriate Game Data Include Files using Notepad or any other plain text editor.
  3. Load Synergy and open the "GAME LIST" from the main menu and enable your newly added game or mod.
  4. Restart Synergy.
  5. Finally, you may have to modify the game or mod's levels to support multiple players.
This is done by using MapEdit Configuration Files and playing through the levels many times, making sure they work correctly.

Distribute game or mod include files

If you wish distribute your game or mod include files (.edt, .inc, .dat, ...), you should place all of your files in an archive that preserves directory structures (.zip or .rar file).

Typically, you're going to have:

  • a Game Definition File in "/content"
  • multiple Game Include Data Files for the game or mod levels in "/maps"
  • multiple MapEdit Files, for fixing the game or mod levels, also in "/maps"

Once that is complete, you may upload your archive to any place you like. Best place to do so of course, is the Synergy Mod Forums.

If you wish, you may also submit your files to us via email at synergymod@gmail.com. We'll take a look at them, test it (if we can) and possibly even include them in our next update.
